In our March Coffee with a Cause we will come together to work with Adriana Thomas, CEO of Cocoon, to help develop their first communications strategy to bring more support for young care leavers in London.
In 2017 Sian Thomas, a local nurse at the time, met a young homeless man and learned he had grown up in care. Moved to act, she rallied volunteers and organised the very first Richmond Christmas Day Dinner for young care leavers.
Today Cocoon supports care-experienced young adults across Richmond, Kingston, and Hounslow as they build independent, fulfilling lives after care.
Their work focuses on improving day-to-day living, easing emotional and financial pressures, and helping them feel less isolated and more hopeful about the future.
From small everyday tasks to life-changing support, their volunteers offer both short- and long-term help. Whether it's filling in forms, navigating housing or finance issues, DIY and decorating, attending appointments, or connecting with vital services—everything we do is rooted in compassion, consistency, and respect.
They remove financial barriers to having a good standard of living, pursuing education and career goals and being able to actively participate in society.
They also continued to host their Christmas Day Dinner in Richmond welcoming 50 care leavers and their children each year.
In the Coffee with a Cause session and beyond we will provide feedback on Cocoon’s recently developed theory of change. And we will support the development of their communications strategy to help engage more volunteers and local business partners and make more people aware of the challenges of leaving care.
