Leadership for a wellbeing economy with Dr Victoria Hurth
"...reforming capitalism begins with redefining success. This is an invitation to rethink what we value, and to govern accordingly — a diagnosis of our economic malaise and a manifesto for a more sustainable future." - from the Financial Times book review of Beyond Profit
In our recent You’re MarketingKind gathering we were joined by Dr Victoria Hurth, pracacademic, speaker, consultant, Fellow of the University of Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership (CISL) and co-author of Beyond Profit: Purpose-Driven Leadership for a Wellbeing Economy.
Victoria shared with us why she wrote the book with frameworks for decision-making at all levels for creating a wellbeing economy. She also encouragedus to look out for the new (coming in early in 2027) international standard of Purpose-Driven Organisations (ISO37011) to further structure the governance of our organisations to achieve wellbeing for all.
Victoria is a strong advocate for governance, oversight and accountability as the most important drivers for organisational change. She believes that they can determine our organisational behaviours and ensure we achieve increased wellbeing as well as profit (rather than profit at all costs).
In this group discussion we covered how structureless organisations (even the best intentioned ones) get taken over by bad actors, the role of values, and how business as usual thinking is constraining our innovation and ability to address our most fundamental societal problems.
